Meet Alkaolin® – Next-Gen Engineered Clay
Alkaolin® aluminosilicate clay demonstrates excellent reactivity under alkaline activation, offering a chemistry of SiO₂ 60% and Al₂O₃ 25%, complemented by alkali oxides and low CaO for controlled geopolymerisation. The mineralogy—illite/smectite + kaolinite (40–45%), with additional muscovite, feldspars, and quartz, delivers a strong reactive phase for cementitious systems.
Performance Highlights:
- Alkali Dissolution Potential – High proportion of reactive aluminosilicates promotes robust N-A-S-H and K-A-S-H gel development.
- Potassium Contribution (K₂O 2.5%) – Enhances early dissolution of silica/alumina species, accelerating strength gain.
- Magnesium Effect (MgO 1.5%) – Fosters hydrotalcite-like phases for improved matrix stability and alkali immobilisation.
- Reactive Capacity – CEC 11–15 cmol+kg⁻¹ and neutral pH window enable reliable activation and compatibility with cement hydrates.
- Clinker Replacement Potential – Supports 20–35% substitution in blended systems, maintaining compressive strength benchmarks while lowering clinker factor.
This clay provides a scientifically robust, reactive SCM, aligning with R&D priorities in alkali-activated binders and low-carbon cement design.
