Blog: Reshaping The Environment And Revitalising Coal Mining Communities
A new report, ‘State of the Coalfields 2024’ from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) indicates that job growth in former pit areas is, regrettably, slower than in other places, despite some progress.
The research undertaken by the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research at Sheffield Hallam University on behalf of the CRT, found there has been growth in former pit communities, but the rate of growth is lagging behind the main regional cities.
Transformative projects
The report highlights the necessity for more transformative projects throughout the UK. Our site, on an old disused Victorian brickworks and ash pit in South Elmsall, West Yorkshire is in a former coal mining community, grappling with the significant social and economic challenges highlighted by this research.
Our goal is to support individuals who may find it challenging to re-enter the workforce. We’re creating new employment opportunities in our neighbourhood, in the new and rapidly growing sustainable material management sector. Our site provides a unique environment for our team to produce bespoke mineral and soil formulations.
Finding new and better ways to do things, using innovative solutions, is vital in areas that are in need of regeneration and critical for our planet too. Our sustainable mineral solutions are designed to support the biodiversity, soil preservation and green construction sectors, helping to make a positive impact.
Sustainable Solutions
Founded in 2012, our roots trace back to the 1950s as a mining and quarrying family business. We now have three key strands to our business. Our expertise incorporates mining existing mineral deposits using sustainable techniques for use in cement and brick and green landscapes; repurposing discarded minerals into new product formulations; and developing bespoke biodiversity solutions.
We place a strong emphasis on training and development, ensuring that our team, including those dealing with health issues, can acquire new skills and advance in their careers. We also believe in fair pay, which can make a significant difference in their lives.
Collaboration is key, and we partner with companies that share our passion for addressing significant social and environmental challenges. Our aim is to form partnerships with those who are dedicated to fostering a circular economy through sustainable practices.
Together, we can help enhance communities, making them more resilient places to live and work. Contact enquiries@minore.co.uk and visit our website for more details: www.minore.co.uk
